Monday’s Golden Globes kicks off Hollywood’s awards season, so in ode, to the upcoming red-carpet onslaught, we decided to dress some ladies we know will be on this year’s scene. We tried to keep their lifestyles, taste, and recent clothing choices in mind while making our picks.
1. Maggie Gyllenhaal
Maggie had a baby at the beginning of October, so while she’s had a few months to recover, she might still feel self-conscious post-baby. This Peter Som gown from his Spring 2007 collection has a figure-flattering empire waist while the strapless bodice will emphasize her décolletage gorgeously. Maggie often makes unconventional style choices, so we thought the bright ultramarine blue would play to her fashion sense.
2. Cate Blanchett
Cate is quite the fashion chameleon. She swoops from futuristic baby doll Versace to black satin classic Valentino and Oliver Peoples sunglasses in a matter of moments, but when it comes to the big award shows she usually sticks to sophisticated, simple silhouettes. This snowy, plunging Ralph Lauren dress is sexily daring and impeccable, much like Cate herself.
3. Beyonce Knowles
We often look at Beyonce and think she resembles a real-life Barbie doll (this is a compliment). She is fearless about color and always riffs on traditional cuts, shapes, and embellishments. This lime Ungaro would make a huge statement and is an unusual color that would really pop on her gorgeous skin.
4. Ginnifer Goodwin
Not to get too punny, but we have Big Love for Ginnifer Goodwin. She chooses her looks carefully—a little more daring than Reese, but not quite as fashion-forward as her co-star Chloe Sevigny. Hence why we think this muted grey Bottega frock would be both appropriate and fantastic on her.
